DESIGN FEATURES
The subsurface sucker rod pump is an assembly of parts that operate within each other to provide a reciprocating positive displacement method of removing fluid from wellbore to production system. It is considered “THE HEART OF THE SUCKER ROD PUMPING SYSTEM". The main function of the pump is decreasing the bottom hole flowing pressure to allow the reservoir producing the desired production rate to the bottom of the well in the meanwhile it increases the well bore fluid pressure to enable it to "flow" to surface with the required wellhead pressure. All dimensions are adhered to and API quality standards. All ULT plungers can be specified in .001" size increments (plunger fit) below base size. They are available in the full ranges of lengths and diameters (from 1 1/16" to 7 3/4").
ULT uses state-of-the-art and proprietary honing machines, CNC lathes and specialized inspection procedures to produce the finest barrels in the industry. ULT standard barrels conform to API dimensions and exceed API quality standards. They are available in a variety of lengths and diameters ranging from 1 1/16” through 4.25” and a variety of materials for all sucker rod pumping conditions.
Carbonitrided Barrel: Made from low carbon steel that is carbonitrided on the inside surface only to increase the carbon content. It is then induction hardened on the inside surface to achieve a surface hardness of HRC 58 -66 with a carbonizing thickness of 0.75-1.13mm per side. It is also precision honed and threaded. This barrel is recommended for moderate or severe abrasion in mild to moderate corrosive environments. The minimum yield strength is 75,000 psi.
Corrosion Resistant Carbonitrided Steel Barrel: Made from a 5% chrome steel that has proven its resistance to corrosion in oilfield. It is processed in the same manner as the standard Carbonitrided barrel and has the same properties with an inside surface hardness of HRC 58 -66 and a carbonizing thickness of 0.75-1.13mm per side. It is also precision honed and threaded. It is recommended for abrasion in mild to moderate corrosive application. The minimum yield strength is also 75,000 psi.
Brass Barrel: Manufactured from arsenical admiralty brass with a relatively high yield strength of 50,000 psi. It is recommended for corrosive conditions in the absence of abrasion.
There are two common surface coatings available. One is Chrome Plating which is usually applied to the barrel ID only with a chrome thickness of 0.076mm and a minimal hardness of HRC66 -71; The other is Nickel Carbide Plating which is applied to all surfaces including ID, OD, and threads with a thickness of 0.038mm per side. Our Brass Nickel Carbide barrels are plated at 0.038 mm thickness per side for an extremely corrosion resistant application.

API Plungers are available in several lengths, diameters and configurations. The diameters range from 1 1/16” through 4.25”.
Plain & Grooved Plungers: All plungers can be come as plain or grooved. The grooves are cut into the plunger before coating so that corrosion resistance is maintained in the grooves.
Pin-end & Box-end Plungers: All plungers can be supplied as pin or box-end. This box-end plunger is recommended for use when an end user wishes to reduce friction through the plunger where the inside diameter of the box-end Plunger is larger than pin-end plungers.
ULT offers Spray Metal Plungers and Chrome Plated Plungers. Spray Metal Plungers have a hardness of HRC48 – 52. It is intended for general production conditions with up to moderate corrosion and moderate abrasion. Chrome Plate Plungers come with a minimal chrome hardness of HRC 65.
ULT also offers Monel Pin Plungers as well. The sprayed metal coating is HRC 58 – 62 and extends to the Monel pin on both ends to completely cover the plunger and protect it from corrosion. It is recommended for severe corrosion and abrasion.

Cages are offered in a variety of sizes, materials, and designs for various operating conditions. One piece cage can be open or closed. Valve cages are guided from inside to control the movement of the ball. Guides can be normal or hardened. Guides can also be separate pieces inserted into the cage body.
One Piece Cage: Cages are available in different material. High strength alloy steel cages are for high pressure pumping conditions. Stainless steel Cages are available in 303/304 SS for corrosive service and 316 SS for pitting corrosive conditions. Brass and Monel for worst down-hole corrosion with Monel also having the strength of alloy steel.
The inner surface of the valve cage is coated for high efficiency. The inner surface can be either Ceramic for anti-corrosion ,non-magnetic applications or Stellite for good wear resistance, anti-corrosion, high temperature applications.
Insert Guided Cage: An insert guide cage consists of three components. Outer Shell can be provided in alloy steel, stainless steel (303/304 or 316), brass or Monel; Insert is precision manufactured from a hard, tough, corrosion resistant stellite alloy; and Spacer with O-ring is available in the same materials as the Outer Shell.

Combination Assembly where balls and seats being of different materials
Each seat is lapped with a special machine to precise size and fit. Also each ball and seat combination is vacuum tested.
Hold-Down Seal Assemblies are available in different configuration, sizes and materials and are also available for every pump assembly and pumping condition. Different Cups are available in nylon, composition and high temperature versions.
Seating Nipples are made to API and industry inside diameters and thread size combinations. Seating nipple configurations include cup & mechanical types in top and bottom hold-down styles.
A retrievable seating device allows the pump to be set at any depth within the tubing. In principle, the retrievable seat operates similarly to a hook wall packer.
Oversized Tubing Pump: It is larger in size than the tubing, thus it is able to produce greater amounts of fluid than regular insert pump and tubing pump. The large fluid flow area through the standing valve and traveling valve makes this pump a great choice for handling viscous fluids. Due to the all-steel design, the THOS can be used in steam flood fields. Temperature has no impact on this type of pump.
Electric Heated Pump for Heavy Oil: Electric cable goes down through the hollow sucker rod and center hole of pump to heat high viscosity crude oil and reduce the viscosity. Travelling valve uses forced on-off mechanism to prevent gas-lock. The available pump bores are 2 1/4" and 2 3/4”.
Deviated Well Pump: The plunger is designed to rotate to avoid inclining abrasion. Travelling valve uses forced on-off mechanism to improve efficiency. This pump is suitable for wells of which deviation is less than 60°. The available pump bore:1 1/2”, 1 3/4”, 2 1/4”, and 2 3/4”.
Sand Control Pump: Two different pump configurations are available. Settling Sand Control Pump of which the top of barrel can prevent the sand. Long Plunger Sand Control Pump: It is of long plunger and short barrel structure. The plunger is located at the top of barrel and decreases the sand block. Sand setting channel is installed outside the barrel to prevent the pump from being plugged by sand. The available pump bores are 1 1/2”, 1 3/4”, and 2 1/4”.
Gas Control Pump: Travelling valve adopts forced on-off structure to prevent gas-lock. The available pump bores are 1 1/2”, 1 3/4”, 2 1/4”, 2 3/4”, 3 1/4” and 3.3/4”.
